March 11, 2020—Ottawa—Each year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recognizes the innovative efforts of businesses across Canada in improving the integration of newcomers into the labour market. Today, the Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the winners of this year’s IRCC Employer Awards for Newcomer Employment.
Each year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), in collaboration with Hire Immigrants Ottawa, recognizes the innovative efforts of businesses across Canada to improve the integration of newcomers into the labour market. This year’s winners are helping to reduce the barriers faced by newcomers entering the labour market and to improve their overall settlement in Canada.

The Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today introduced a Bill to amend the Citizenship Act to change Canada’s Oath of Citizenship. The bill responds to the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission by inserting text that refers to the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) today partnered with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club in a special citizenship ceremony, where 20 families from 20 countries were welcomed into the Canadian family ahead of the hockey game between the Senators and the visiting Calgary Flames.
Fifty immigrants from 14 countries became Canadian citizens at a special ceremony held today at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Millions of people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes and their countries due to conflict and persecution. As unresolved refugee and humanitarian crises continue, nations must work together to help advance solutions. Canada will continue to lead by example.
